I’m Baaack!

December 15, 2010

Re-activated my WOW account with the release of Cataclysm on Deember 7th.  Rather than leveling one of my current toons, I’ve foolishly elected to start over with a Goblin.  I mean…it’s a Goblin!  What other race is so likely to nick your wallet and blow you up “real good”?!

It’ll be some time before I’ve got back into Engineering with the new toon and all..  Will post the next update when I’m able.

Gone Fishin’

July 16, 2009

gonefishingDue to “Real Life” and other pressures, I seem to have hit a wall both in playing World of Warcraft and blogging about it.  Taking some time off of both.  On a related note, if you are into World of Warcraft fishing, check out:

A site I can only aspire to matching for Engineering “stuff” in my dreams.

See y’all soon…

Engineering Power Leveling (Apprentice)

July 14, 2009

Apprentice level Engineering is fairly straightforward.  There are 5 recipes to push your Engineering skill up to level 50, the level at which you can train for Journeyman Engineering:

Rough Blasting Powder
Rough Dynamite
Crafted Light Shot
Handful of Copper Bolts
Rough Copper Bomb

With such a limited list, this should be fairly easy to determine which items to build and in what quantity.  Let’s do this… Read the rest of this entry »

Engineering Power Leveling

July 9, 2009

There are several guides for power leveling Engineering, but it’s:

  • not clear what methodology was used by the author
  • not clear that the guides are being updated/maintained

The guides themselves are not bad, per se, but I’d like to go through the steps of creating such a guide with more complete disclosure.  I’m telling you up front that I plan to make this an (approximately) 7 part post.  That is, 1 post per “level” of Engineering (Apprentice, Journeyman, etc.) plus this lead in post.  It should be noted that higher levels of Engineering do have waaaayy more schematics than lower levels, so I may split some of those up further.

NOTE: I may veer off course here and there and still make other posts, but this project alone will keep me going for the next several weeks.

On to my planned methodology:

3.2 Patch (PTR)

July 7, 2009
This is old news, but worth trotting out again (OK…I admit it, I just got back from vacation and am being lazy).  From the PTR Patch Page, here are the changes aimed specifically at Engineering for the 3.2.0 patch:

No Post Today

July 2, 2009

I’m off celebrating the 4th of July.

Go blow something up real good!

Let there be (flash) light!

June 30, 2009

Back in patch 3.1, Engineers received:

High-powered Flashlight
Binds when equipped
Unique-Equipped
Trinket
Requires Level 49
Equip: Improves hit rating by 24 (3.04% @ L49).
Use: Summon a ring of light on a specific location that lasts for 3 min. (1 Hour Cooldown)

This caused lots of forum QQ and controversy, including posts like this:

To Engineers Complaining about the Flashlight

Which, while very amusing, may not be the entire story.  Let’s take a closer look at our maligned flashlight.

Non-Engineering Toys (Rocket Helmet)

June 25, 2009

Dalaran from the Air

There are a number of attainable toys that either:

mimic Engineering crafted toys
are toys that seem like they should be Engineering crafted

One of them is the X-52 Rocket Helmet attainable from an Outlands quest.

Flashback

June 23, 2009

Today I thought I’d gather together all the Engineering bug fixes/patches since the release of World of Warcraft.  These are based strictly on what is documented in the 1.0.2 to the 3.1.3 Patch Notes even though there are some known, undocumented changes.  Without further ado…

Motorcycles for fun and…profit?

June 18, 2009

So you’ve leveled Engineering to 450 and you’re wondering where to sign-up to get the motorcycle:

Horde: Mechano-hog
Alliance:  Mekgineer’s Chopper

Well…it’s easy.  But it’ll hurt…
