Non-Engineering Toys (Rocket Helmet)

Dalaran from the Air

There are a number of attainable toys that either:

mimic Engineering crafted toys
are toys that seem like they should be Engineering crafted

One of them is the X-52 Rocket Helmet attainable from an Outlands quest.

This beauty comes from a 7 step quest chain.  The first step is:

Quest: Help Mama Wheeler
NPC: Papa Wheeler
Zone: Netherstorm

and ends with:

Quest: Back to the Chief!
NPC: Rocket-Chief Fuselage
Zone: Netherstorm

The only challenging quest (depending on level and spec) in the midst of this chain is You, Robot, a level 67 3-person quest.  Should be solo-able by most (all?) at level 80.  If you completed this chain in the past and for some reason deleted the reward, simply go back to Rocket-Chief Fuselage and he will offer you another X-52 Rocket Helmet.

A few things to keep in mind regarding this toy:

  1. As with all equipped items, there is a cool down between when an item is equipped and when it can first be used.  About 30 seconds.
  2. The helmet will apply an on-use de-buff called “To Infinity and Above” which will take away 50% of your full health over 3 ticks while rocketing upwards.  In other words, don’t use it if at half health or less (unless you have a pally bubble or some-such to shield you from this damage).
  3. The “Slow Fall” effect which is triggered upon reaching the apex/zenith of the rocket flight will last approximately until you descend back to the point where you triggered the helmet.  In other words, don’t do this too high in the air unless you have a plan B (which may just be “I’m going to die!”).
  4. The X-52 Rocket Helmet has a 30 minute cool down.
  5. The on-use effect (the rocket) can only be used in Zones where you can fly (eg. most of Northrend and Outlands).
  6. You pretty much go straight-up and then straight-down.

Now for the fun:

Ejector Seat
First logged example for this idea was on the WoW forums by Konge of Kargath server here.  To use, create a macro similar to the following:

/panic
/dismount
/use X-52 Rocket Helmet

Step 1: Ensure your X-52 Rocket Helmet is equipped
Step 2: Mount your Turbo Charged Flying Machine
Step 3: Profit!

Exploding Shoes

Another bit of entertainment is to precede your ground use of the X-52 Rocket Helmet by:

Gnomish Rocket Boots
Goblin Rocket Boots
Rocket Boots Xtreme
Rocket Boots Xtreme Light
Nitro Boosts

Step 1: Use your boots and run.
Step 2: Use your helmet at an appropriate time
Step 3: Profit!

Base Jumping

Looking for more “fun” things to do with your Rocket Helmet?  How about some base jumping?

Step 3: Profit!
