Engineering Power Leveling (Apprentice)

By Brian

Apprentice level Engineering is fairly straightforward.  There are 5 recipes to push your Engineering skill up to level 50, the level at which you can train for Journeyman Engineering:

Rough Blasting Powder
Rough Dynamite
Crafted Light Shot
Handful of Copper Bolts
Rough Copper Bomb

With such a limited list, this should be fairly easy to determine which items to build and in what quantity.  Let’s do this…

Looking more closely at these items, here they are with the different skill levels:

Orange: The minimum skill required to learn the recipe.  Each usage of said skill guarantees a skill-up.
Yellow: The skill level which you cease being guaranteed a skill-up with each successful use.
Green: The skill level where skill-ups will be few and far between.
Gray: The skill level where skill-ups will never be earned.

and the materials required.

Orange Yellow Green Grey Name Materials
1 20 30 40 Rough Blasting Powder 1x Rough Stone
1 30 45 60 Rough Dynamite x2 2x Rough Blasting Powder
1x Linen Cloth
1 30 45 60 Crafted Light Shot x200 1x Rough Blasting Powder
1x Copper Bar
30 45 52 60 Handful of Copper Bolts 1x Copper Bar
30 60 75 90 Rough Copper Bomb x2 1x Copper Bar
1x Handful of Copper Bolts
2x Rough Blasting Powder
1x Linen Cloth

Now technically I am less interested in the exact raw materials for each and more interested in the cost of said materials:

Orange Yellow Green Grey Name Cost
1 20 30 40 Rough Blasting Powder 50 copper
1 30 45 60 Rough Dynamite x2 5 silver
1 30 45 60 Crafted Light Shot x200 20 silver 50 copper
30 45 52 60 Handful of Copper Bolts 20 silver
30 60 75 90 Rough Copper Bomb x2 45 silver

Note: The cost of Rough Stone is all over the place.  Median seems to be about 50 copper, but it can go up to as high as 5 silver.

Obviously once we’ve decided what to build (based on price, etc.), we will still need to build a “shopping list”, but I’m getting ahead of myself.  However, while I am ahead of myself, I should mention that Handful of Copper Bolts is used by Engineering Recipes into the 150ish skill level.  Many of these recipes otherwise have some fairly expensive materials, so these will only be considered where there are no other options.  Most of these low level products have fairly low sell value (both in price and frequency) on the AH and all but the Rough Shot can be sold to a vendor.  Therefore the most expedient thing is to just vendor the items as noted below.  If I get far enough ahead of the posts, I’ll come back and ensure I’ve taken all of this into account and would pre-adjust my build recommendations based on that data.  However, if you are reading this, I most likely did not and may need to adjust things on the fly.

So let’s finally start this thing.  Producing the following:

Recipe Goal Materials (approximate)
Rough Blasting Powder 25 Engineering 25 Rough Stone
Rough Dynamite 30 Engineering 10 Rought Blasting Powder
5 Linen Cloth

As noted, this should bring you up to a 30 skill level.  Once there, sell the Rough Dynamite but keep the Rough Blasting Powder.  You’ll need this for your Jorneyman power leveling.  Now produce:

Recipe Goal Materials (approximate)
Handful of Copper Bolts 50 Engineering 30 Copper Bar

Once you’ve hit 50 Engineering, you can now go train for Journeyman Engineering. Save your Rough Blasting Powder and Handful of Copper Bolts for several recipes at the Journeyman level.

TIme for a party!
Gratz!!!
